Transformation of Bach´s City

Johann Sebastian Bach left this world 275 years ago, but his music remains immortal in old and new performance venues.

We will take you to places that impacted his creative period and to those that Bach never saw. Passing St. Nicholas Church and Mendelssohn House, we will arrive at the home of the orchestra that has long accompanied the St. Thomas Boys Choir. The University Church, Old Town Hall and Bose House are important sites that are closely associated with Bach’s music. Finally, we will visit St. Thomas Church (interior tour subject to accessibility), where Bach’s remains were buried 75 years ago. It is the place that draws attention to Bach’s everlasting musical legacy like no other.

Bach’s music remains alive: transformed, heard and celebrated in both its original form and modern contexts – a fascinating interplay of past and present.
